When I first started The Tumblepatch Chronicles, I had no idea how much this story would grow. The original Book One was meant to be a whimsical beginning, but when I sat down to draft Book Two, I hit a wall. The foundation I had built was too abstract and it left me struggling to move forward.

I tried revising the first book, but the more I worked on it, the more I realized I wasn’t just fixing small things. The story needed a completely new direction. Thanks to thoughtful feedback from readers and early supporters, I made the tough decision to set aside the old version and rewrite the book from the ground up.

That rewrite became The Shadow’s Reach. It is still Nibbles’ story, but told with a stronger focus on adventure, companions, and the fight against a rising darkness. The new book leans into a more traditional epic fantasy style while keeping the heart and humor that made me love these characters in the first place.

In the process, I also brought in story elements I had originally been saving for Book Two. That means you will meet some very lovable new characters earlier, such as Sir Leonardo Pondsworth III, a Frog Knight with more heart than armor, alongside familiar favorites from the original version like Guildmaster Bristlebaum and Acornimus the spy squirrel.

It was not an easy choice, but it was the right one. Now the series has the solid foundation it needs, and I can move forward with excitement instead of hesitation.
